Oblates of Saint Benedict

WHAT IS AN OBLATE OF SAINT BENEDICT OF QUEEN OF HEAVEN MONASTERY?

WHAT IS AN OBLATE OF SAINT BENEDICT OF QUEEN OF HEAVEN MONASTERY?
An Oblate of Saint Benedict is a man or woman who becomes associated with the Benedictine Sisters in Warren for the purpose of growing closer to God. The Rule that Saint Benedict wrote to guide his monastics is studied, and its principles are applied to the family life, social life, and work life of the Oblate.

Because much of the Rule of Benedict quotes Scripture, Oblates grow in their knowledge of the Person of Christ and desire to bring Christ's attitude to the events of their daily life.

Although Queen of Heaven Monastery follows the Byzantine Catholic Rite, an Oblate does not have to be Byzantine Catholic.

WHAT DO OBLATES DO?

WHAT DO OBLATES DO?
Meetings are held once a month at Queen of Heaven Monastery for those who are able to attend. Oblates who live at a distance and are unable to attend are informed of the proceedings. They participate in spirit and in prayer as much as they are able.

Frequently articles of current interest or enduring spiritual value are discussed. An appreciation for the beauty and meaningfulness of Byzantine liturgical life, with its frequent prayer for the intercession of the Theotokos, is also a topic for study. Because issues of peace and justice are important to Benedictines, current events are discussed with the teachines of Christ as a guide to decision-making.

Oblates share in the prayer life of the sisters by praying part of the Divine Office daily. In this way they join in the Prayer of the Church for their own needs and needs of all the Church. Oblates are free to join the sisters for prayer or Divine Liturgy in the Monastery Chapel as their lives permit.

Once a year close to the Feast of Saint Scholastica, in a ceremony in the monastery chapel, the oblates renew their intention to center their lives on Christ.

WHY BECOME AN OBLATE

You will join with people who take their spiritual life seriously. The give-and-take of the meetings and the sharing on a deep level are a great help in keeping priorities straight and life balanced.

If you are interested in becoming an Oblate, contact Sister Agnes at 330-856-1813.
